Ebere:
Sits at her office desk.
It's Friday.
It has been one of those hectic weeks at the office. So much to accomplish and so many deadlines to meet. But thankfully all has been done and the workload has finally been taken care of.
Gazing across her desk, with files, books, and office stuff strewn everywhere, her heart feels a little uneasy.
Sitting in the silence of the office, she thinks to herself.
"Why do I feel so empty?" She wonders!
“Ah ha.” She exclaims silently with knowing, as the reason for her unease dawns on her.
She has been so busy, waking up very early, doing all to ensure everyone is taken care of and rushing off to the office, working all through the day and rushing back home again to take care of the evening's responsibilities that she has unwittingly neglected her walk and fellowship with the Lord.
The few times of fellowship have been hurried and often full of distractions!
"Oh yes!" she exclaims from within with knowing. This is the reason for my feelings of emptiness.
'I am missing Jesus, the most important Person in my life"
Having a few minutes before heading home, she opens her bible to a familiar portion of scripture. One of her favourites.
"Like the finest apple tree in the orchard is my Lover among other young men. I sit in His delightful shade and taste his delicious fruit. He escorts me to the banquet hall; it’s obvious how much He loves me. Strengthen me with raisin cakes, refresh me with apples, for I am weak with love." Song of Solomon 2:3–5 (NLT)
She sees herself with her Lord in that scripture. Sitting under His shade, she begins to take the fruit of His Person. Remembering His words ''I have loved you with an everlasting love and I have drawn you with my loving kindness,'‘ she begins to feel the fiery love of God warm her heart.
Another fruit drops into her heart from the prayers of Jesus in John chapter 17. She remembers there how Jesus prays that she should know that God loves her as much as He loves Jesus.
Feeding on His unconditional love and Savouring the beauty of His Person, all the while sitting under His shade, she could sense His abiding presence and the feeling of emptiness begins to lift.
She could sense the warmth of His Person. Already feeling the warm embrace of His presence, rises to head home.
She walks home with that awareness and she's involved in a silent conversation with Him on the way, almost oblivious to people around.
Getting home she can't wait to get the duties of the household over with so she can slip away and spend some time alone with Him before bed.
She wakes up revived and refreshed having her heart awake in communion through the night although she slept soundly.
"I sleep, but my heart is awake;
It is the voice of my beloved! He knocks, saying, “Open for me, my sister, my love, My dove, my perfect one; For my head is covered with dew, My locks with the drops of the night.” Song of Solomon 5:2
Her spirit is merry and she walks with a lightness about her. Everyone could sense the peace all around her and said so.
The word truly has revived her.
These experiences have become a norm for her since she began taking the word of God as the guiding principle of her life. She truly has begun to see life in the Bible.
The word of God has become her go-to place in all circumstances of life and she has never been disappointed.
The word to her is not a book of information, but life itself. In it she finds Life. She finds Jesus.
You can too.
